To promote their new show in Rush Limbaugh's old spot, Clay Travis and Buck Sexton conducted a presidential preference poll. Ron DeSantis was the runaway winner over Donald John Trump with Ted Cruz and Mike Pompeo being lapped several times.

Now, it is Twitter, which represents a small sampling of Americans who spend way too much time on the Internet.

But the case for DeSantis is solid. 

At 42 (46 when the election rolls around), he represents a new generation of Americans who grew up with computers and the rise of Red China into a superpower. He came of age on 9/11 (turning 23 three days later). He saw baby boomers run the White House for 28 years. (Yes, Obama was part of that generation.) And would go against a pre-baby boom dinosaur who by Election Day 2024 will have turned the nation into downtown Minneapolis.

And DeSantis could be the next Republican president. He is the nation's youngest governor, sure, but he was also the wisest as he tried to keep Florida open during the pandemic panic.

With DeSantis, you get Trump's moxie and his rudeness to the press. He fights. He wins. He enjoys life.

The decision on the 2024 Republican nomination is up to Donald Trump. If he runs, he wins. He will have my vote and undying devotion. Maybe a few bucks, too. The reality is DeSantis cannot be his running mate as they are both Floridians.

If Trump runs, DeSantis will finish his term as governor, run for Senate, and live to play presidential politics another day.

But the question is whether it is time for Donald Trump to enjoy his well-earned retirement. 

As president emeritus, Trump would be the keeper of the flame who serves as the experienced teacher who keeps the president on track.

But I can see why he wants another bite of the apple. Democrats and RINOs hampered his presidency in a manner that truly is anti-democratic. Obama's resistance was unAmerican.

The 2020 election was a sham and a scam. Democrats and the media screwed Donald Trump out of a second term by stealing the election. 

He campaigned long and hard, and earned 75 million votes (up from 62 million in 2016). Biden sat in his basement and suddenly got 80 million votes? And the courts and the media won't allow an audited recount?

The stolen election is unfair.

We can spend the 2024 election trying to turn back time, or we can move ahead. Winning on November 5, 2024, matters more than rehashing 2020.

President Trump can, will, and should make 2020 his campaign theme in 2022, when he leads Republicans to majorities in both the House and the Senate. The Senate will be difficult as there are more Republican seats to lose than there are Democrats seats to gain.

But 2024 seems a bridge too far, He'll be 78 and in a grudge match with Biden. (I think Democrats now realize Kamala is a 50-state wipeout.)

By then, DeSantis will be tanned, rested, and ready.

The decision absolutely is Donald Trump's, as well it should be. We shall see how this turns out.

And of course, Clay Travis is promoting his new show with this poll. It is not Trump vs. DeSantis. It is Trump deciding whether to run again.

If he does not, then it is DeSantis vs. Cruz vs. Noem vs. Pompeo vs. a pack of RINOs and winos. And DeSantis is well ahead of the rest.
