＊From "Heisei"  to "Reiwa" ＊

April 30th, our Emperor Heisei (Akihito) declared his abdication. He succeeded to the Chrysanthemum Throne upon the death of his father, Emperor Shōwa (Hirohito).  He is the first Japanese monarch to stand down  in the last 202 years. 

The emperor took part in private Shinto ceremonies to start the day.

In his moving speech, he said he wished Japan and the world peace and happiness.

 On  May 1, (next day) Coronation Day of the new Emperor Reiwa.

I was born in Showa-era;  not sure if I will be able to know next era ;-)
